Summary
The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) is a not-for-profit corporation without share capital created by Ontario's Electricity Act, 1998. The IESO is not an agent of the Crown in right of Ontario (the Crown) for any purpose and its liabilities are not guaranteed by the Crown. The Province of Ontario appoints the IESO's board of directors, and the Crown is entitled to the property of the IESO in the event of the IESO's dissolution (after debts and liabilities are paid). The Province of Ontario is therefore effectively, if not legally, the IESO's owner.
